Dear Turkey, do you really need water cannons on refugees?

While Islamic State militants are sizing more and more villages in Syria, at least 130,000 refugees escaped into Turkey over the weekend. Many more are expected. On Friday reporters pictured men and women praising for help and implored Turkish border patrollers to open the fences  and just let them go through. Through the UNHCR, the UN agency dedicated to refugees, they finally got the access into the country. But as soon as they got in, some troubles started, since on Sunday they closed the borders again.

There are conflicting reports on what is actually going on. Pictures depicting violence are circulating wildly on Twitter and other social media. Several videos have been posted on Youtube. On Sunday there have been clashes between Syrian refugees and the Turkish police. Amongst them women who have been hit by water cannons and tear gas. On the other hand pictures of soldiers helping women and kids have been published by Turkish media. In the meantime the PKK – The Kurdistan Workers Party- has urged all the Kurdish to go to the Syrian-Turkish border and fight IS back.

Still, it is unclear how the situation is going to develop in the near future. Teheran is ready to help fighting the Islamic State, “but would like more flexibility on Iran’s uranium enrichment program in exchange,” Reuters reported on Monday morning. Putin is also ready to jump in a sort of cooperation with the US allies. As a response the Islamic State press officer, Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, urged militants to attack both American and French citizens.
